Argument Scene Research

The Office: I chose this source because it has elements of visual comedy during their conversations and arguments.

CueNotes
Using whip pans for arguments or conversations.

Mockumentary

Whip Pan + Zoom in

The office maximizes visual comedy by using camera moves that match a character’s emotional state:
Handheld – out of control (shaky)
Pan – disconnected
Zoom – on anger, discovery, or making a mistake ( makes it comedic)

Look at the lens, in the office Jim looks at the camera. This makes him relatable.

Sometimes the equipment was in the filming or sometimes the camera people were in the way of the characters

They used dashcams

The Camera is an omniscient perspective.

Funniest jokes – when characters try to get privacy from camera but can’t.

Summary: I can create visual comedy using camera movements such as handheld, pan, and zoom. The way the characters interact with the camera can also create elements of comedy.
